Loads of Hack folk in the Rock and Roll video. Michelle, Lily, Doug Matt, Vamps, Me, Caroline and the list goes on. Nice video. I hope they put it up on You Tube soon so folks can see it.

All things considered I found it a pretty strange gig.
We had a vile journey, it should take us just over an hour form home to Wrexham, but it turned out to be over two & a half 'cause of road works / diversions around Nantwich. I'm usually a placid man, but if I had come across a representative from Highways & Byways I would have easily killed. Perhaps this didn't place me in the best frame of mind pre-show?
Even so it was great to catch up with GDoug, Eric, Julie-Ann, Katt, Jackie & Dave, even if it felt a bit brief.
I'm quite happy to be corrected by others in attendance but I felt Mike wasn't really into it, understandably he should be distracted with Jules being unwell. I found the venue soul less, what could have been an intimate affair felt almost like a lecture with everybody static in their seats. I would have preferred a standing show, but it was perhaps seated because of broadcast to ensure a good online view and no creaking out of tune vocals from the crowd.
I wonder (and I have no basis for saying this) that Mike proceeded with the gig because of the commitment to the radio / online broadcast; be that a contact, the opportunity to reach a wider audience or simply the late hour if cancelled.

Set wise I found it all a bit heavy going, the first half especially. Very few people had suggested tracks to be played, worth mentioning that although Liz were referenced a bit not ONE of our requests was actually played :-D There was promise initially, but it all became a bit predictable, maybe more focused on the casual fan than those in attendance.
Most interestingly was Mike's between song banter, he was significantly less candid that he has been previously about the break up of the band (obviously from his perspective) and was the internet this performance will live on beyond word of mouth and I wonder if he'll regret some of his comments? There was obviously a time constraint, Liz commented that she felt Mike wanted to talk instead on play and this meant that the show seriously over ran (six songs in the first hour)
Despite all this there were some great individual song performance, I look forward to viewing Doug’s films and perhaps I will view the night differently. I’m not usually such a grumpy goat and am reluctant to criticise, I’ve seen Mike / The Alarm in many guises and in many places over the past decades. All my problems are mine alone and have nothing to do with Mike himself or his performance, more the format, the venue and the concept.

I'm with Rue on the venue. It was indeed a strange place and probably the fact that it was being broadcast somewhere meant that it had to be a seated affair. The first hour was pretty tough going but I was kind of happy because he did two songs that I picked ('Tell Me' and 'Walk Forever') and I spray painted the poppy for both of them at the same time. It was strange because only a couple of people actually did the spray painting.

A lot of old ground was covered in between songs and most of it known to the audience I'm sure. Maybe Mike felt he had to give a bit more detail as it was being broadcast, I don't know. There were quite a few songs that I was glad to hear again. I think though if the show had been scripted a bit better it could have been around two and half hours and that would have been enough.

I'm really glad I went. It was nice to catch up with some folks like Rue & Liz, Eric and Julieann, Kat and Jackie, Mick Thompson etc and one wishes that we could have had a bit more time (even the interval after the first six songs was over before we knew what was happening!).

I'll post some more pictures later and I have ten of the eleven videos up that I took (still have to edit the Spirit of 76 one because it's a wee bit too long for You Tube).

I'll write a little more later about the show. Have to spend some time with Kerstin :)

Do you want to own a piece of Alarm memorabilia?

Your chance to own the Wrexham poppy backdrop featured in the photo above. The backdrop is now up for auction for the Love Hope Strength Foundation.

The backdrop was designed and handsprayed by Mike Peters and would be a great feature for any living room wall. Eat your heart out Banksy...... The backdrop will be signed by Mike Peters.

The item will go to the highest bidder and the closing date for bids is 22 January 2010. All bids should be emailed to Katrinac@kcopping.fsnet.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false and I will update weekly the highest bidder and amount.

Starting bid is £50.

Good luck xxxx

I was actually quite shocked and sincerely distraught by some of the comments and felt it dis-credited the original members to a degree, but I thought perhaps I was the only one reading through to the core of the messages.
But in the end it was between the four of them and although there may be different versions to the stories, and maybe even in the way they each perceive it, the truth will remain between them.
I think the intro to "Tell Me" was extremely honest and gave back some very deserved due credit.
